Specially arranged and rung to the memory of Private Harry Saunders, Known as Harry ‘Bertie’ H Saunders. Essex Regiment 9th Battalion on what was thought to be the 100th anniversary of his death (subsequently found to be wrong!) He was living at Alma Square, Mistley. His occupation was the same as his father, a Fisherman. His Medal Index Card shows that he was awarded the British War Medal and Victory Medal. Harry has no known grave and is commemorated on the Arras Memorial Bay 7. Died of wounds 18th July 1917 Aged 23. Harry was a ringer at this tower.
