Today the bells of this Cathedral Church of St. Nicholas were ringing as part of “Ringing to Remember” the Durham & Newcastle Association of Church Bellringers First World War Ringing Commemoration.
On this day one hundred years ago a bellringer from St. Cuthbert’s Church, Darlington was killed. We rang to celebrate his life and the ultimate sacrifice that he made.
Private Joseph Ainsley
Joseph was the Son of William and Anne Ainsley living at Woodside Cottages, Blackwell Lane, Darlington. Joseph, service no. 13740, served in the 7th. Btn.
