Rung to mark the 75th anniversary of ‘LNER No. 4468, A4 class Pacific, MALLARD’ on achieving the world speed record for a steam locomotive, which it still holds to this day.
The record was achieved on 3rd July 1938 on the East Coast Main Line between Grantham and Peterborough at Stoke Bank when Mallard clocked a top speed of 125.88mph.
Mallard was built here in Doncaster in March 1938 at the LNER Doncaster Works.
