To mark the centenary of the death of Private Elias J Clark 49 Battalion (Alberta Regiment) Canadian Infantry. Born in Bisley 31st December 1895 James, as he was known, emigrated to Canada and subsequently enlisted for the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force in Edmonton aged 19 (he was 5'6'' in height and his occupation was stated to be "clerk"). He arrived on The Somme in August 1916 and was killed in action at the Battle of Flers-Courcelette but the exact date of his death is unknown as his service record shows it was either the 15th or 16h of September 1915. In his will he left his estate to his sister who was living in Wells Road, Bisley.
