Iwerne Minster, St Mary the Virgin, Dorset. One of only three Dorset churches with a medieval spire, 60 feet high. 14th century tower and chancel, Norman arcade. Interesting wooden staircase to tower. Ring of six bells, tenor 14-1-12 in E flat. 3rd, 5th and tenor by John Wallis, the former 1609, the latter two 1618. The fourth is 1360 by the London foundry, 2nd by Abraham Bilbie 1768, treble by Mears & Stainbank 1904. Retuned and rehung by Whitechapel in 1979 in a new steel frame, the 2nd bell on the top tier. Church on the site of a Saxon minster.
