Rung to celebrate the life of Rev. John Parish whose funeral was held in this Church on Friday 7th July, 2017. The tenor was tolled 96 times to mark the years of his life.
Rev. John was the Rector of the neighbouring parish of Alstonville for many years and later devoted considerable time to assist fundraising for the installation of the bells in this Church. He wrote poems for the bells and was as well a generous donor to the bell fund.
Thank you for your life, Rev. John.

1. The death in action of Private Patrick “Paddy” Bugden VC on 28th September 1917, aged 20 years. “Paddy” Bugden was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross for his actions at Ypres, Belgium during the Battle of Polygon Wood. Private Bugden silenced many enemy pillboxes and rescued numerous wounded soldiers under heavy machine gun fire and it was during one of these missions that he was killed. “Paddy” Bugden was born in South Gundurimba via Lismore and enlisted in the Army from Alstonville where his family owned the Federal Hotel. He is buried in Hooges Crater Cemetery in Belgium and his Memorial is in Bugden Avenue, Alstonville.
2. Local members of the 41st Battalion who died in the cause of freedom fighting on the Western Front.
Private Arthur BATES of Alstonville, died of illness in United Kingdom on 11th September 1917 aged 25 and is buried in Camberwell Old Cemetery, London, England
Private Leonard Charles BEGGS of Rous Mill via Lismore, died of wounds and gas in France on 4th October 1917, aged 22 years and is buried in Nine Elms British Cemetery, Poperinghe, Flanders Belgium
Private Francis Joseph GALLAGHER of Eureka, died of wounds on 4th October 1917 in Belgium and is buried in Ypres Reservoir Cemetery, Ypres, Flanders, Belgium
Private Frederick Arthur GALLAGHER of Eureka, killed in action at Passchendaele Ridge, Belgium on 5th October 1917 aged 29 years. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium
The GALLAGHER brothers enlisted on the same day and served together until their deaths.
Private William Amos ELLEM of Casino, killed in action at Passchendaele, Belgium on 5th October 1917, aged 26 years . He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium

This is the fifth quarter peal to commemorate local members of the 41st Battalion who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country in the period from 1916 to 1919.
