In April 1915 Stobart’s medical Unit - an all-woman team of doctors, nurses and orderlies - travelled to Serbia where there was an outbreak of typhus. They set up a tented hospital on the racecourse outside the town of Kragujevatz, about 80 miles south of besieged Belgrade. Throughout the summer of 1915 Stobart organised roadside dispensaries within a fifty-mile radius of Kragujevatz.
