For Red Nose Day.
Until they dropped
That’s how long the red noses stayed on the eight ringers of a quarter peal for Red Nose Day 2 on Friday, 10th March, at Reigate (three noses stayed on throughout). Back in February when Lenny Henry announced the event, Anthony thought it would be a good idea to ring a quarter peal on that night, before the District practice.
The bells of Reigate were arranged and, later on, eight ringers from five Southern District towers agreed to ring a quarter of Grandsire Triples, wearing red noses.
A couple of weeks before the day itself, trying to get sponsors for the attempt was suggested as a way of raising money for the event. It wasn’t until seven days before that four members of the band started asking everyone they could for sponsors. Therefore the £150 which we did eventually send to Comic Relief for their work in Africa and this country was raised in just a week.
