Rung in memory of our dear friend Robert Wilson, of Ossington Notts, who unexpectedly died last week. Robert was not just a friend to many but also a ringer & conductor, farmer & engineer but his passion was inter-war Caterpillar machinery - a true enthusiast. Robert made a huge contribution to the bells project here at Hawton giving his time and expertise freely by fabricating and building the new steel ten bell H frame which involved over 7 tonnes of steelwork, as well as loaning numerous specialist equipment, all free of charge. Over the years Robert has built many frames and done work on bells free of charge at many towers in the Newark area. He was always willing to help anyone whether that was giving his time freely to teach new ringers, help ringers progress or maintaining or improving bell installations big or small. He will certainly be missed greatly by all who had the privilege of knowing him. We have not only lost a dedicated bell ringer but also a truly genuine person and a good friend to many. But what will be missed the most is his big smile, his kind heart and his infectious and distinctive laughter. Robert had a great sense of humour and always livened up a room when he entered! We are sure he is up there entertaining everyone! Rest in Peace dear friend, taken far too early. Keltek Trust Quarter Peals to thank them for all they do. (No. 4 of 7) The Keltek Trust found four bells for Hawton to augment them from four to eight and then ten in 2019/2021, with the Trust donating the tenor bell and the second bell to the project. The tower donation has been given to the Keltek Trust donation as a thank you and the ringers have matched it also. The band wish to associate Mick Young with this quarter. Mick did a huge amount for the project working alongside Geoff Wells as bell hanger and joiner, giving all his time free. He will be sadly missed for all the help and assistance he has given to the Southwell guild in the augmentation of many Nottinghamshire rings of bells. His last major project was for Hawton helping as the Diocesan bells advisor, giving both help and advise in the facility applications to ensure they were worded in the correct manner so they were accepted first time. His donation of hand bells to Hawton was amazing. Ill health prevented him coming to Hawton for the dedication of the two treble's of the 10. A sound clip was sent which he really apricated.
