A celebration of the life of our good friend Bryan Birkett BEM (tower captain of Sutton-cum-Lound), who passed away on 22nd March, aged 82. Bryan was a staunch supporter of Sunday ringing and practice nights at Retford and is greatly missed in the North Notts District. The above band included many of Bryan's leading peal ringing colleagues. Bob Hancock was unable to ring, but wishes to be associated with this peal and our thoughts are also with Stuart Brown, who had to drop out.

Specially arranged as a tribute to Bryan Birkett BEM, tower captain of Sutton-cum-Lound for over 50 years, who passed away on 22nd March, aged 82. Bryan was the driving force behind the augmentation of these bells (by increments) from the original unringable 3 to the current pleasant octave. He was a lovely man and a tremendous character. Curiously, Rutland was his favourite method!
Kingsley Mason is associated with this peal.

Rung with the bells half muffled on the eve of Remembrance Sunday in memory of the fallen.
This is the revival of the local tradition of a half muffled Armistice Peal being attempted at Brant Broughton on the Saturday before Remembrance Sunday, starting in the afternoon and ringing into the dusk. Between 1958 & 1997 there were consecutive Armistice Peals rung at Brant Broughton with the final one rung in 2000 being the 40th Armistice Peal.
The peal attempt today had to be called round at the half peal due to one of the back bells ropes coming untucked.
Also remembering the late Fred Derry who was Tower Captain here for over 50 years and rang in all 40 of the Armistice Peals. Also remembering Tom Rodgers, Phil Pitchford, Ted Brown, John Marshall, all members of the new local band which was formed in 1957 who all rang in the first peal on the bells by an entirely local band and who began the local tradition of Armistice Peals.
The conductor wishes to remember his grandfather Tom Rodgers who passed away 21 years ago today, two days after the last Armistice Peal. Tom lived in the village and was one of the ringers who formed the new local band here in 1957.
The conductor remembers being brought up visiting his grandparents here in Brant Broughton and hearing the annual half muffled Armistice Peal each year.
Also marking the centenary of the Royal British Legion.
