A ¼ FOR AN ESCAPEE!
On Friday 15th February Hathersage Tower rang a 1/4peal in thanks to Mr Frank Stone, a long- standing member of the team, but who, due to illness, has not been able to attend ringing at church and regrettably is unlikely to be able to ring again.
Frank is well known in the village, not just as a bell ringer, but more particularly country wide as a guest of Adolf Hitler resident at Stalag Luft III. For the past 30 years Frank has been sharing his experiences of the camp explaining all the planning leading up to the great escape.
We will miss Frank very much. Not only for his ringing but for his reliability in attending and in particular ringing the Tenor. Not bad for 91 year old!
