1st of Cambridge Minor - 4. Believed to be the 1st peal on the bells since 1937. In memoriam John Hilson of Turvey, Vice-President, died 11 November 1975.

[From the Ringing World of 23.1.1976, 3378.69 - COINCIDENCE

In October Ronald J. Sharp arranged a peal attempt to take place at Bletsoe on November 22, and just before the arranged date John Hilson of Turvey (an Association vice-president) died on November 11 and was buried on November 18.

The band therefore decided to make the attempt an “In Memoriam” tribute to John Hilson and the peal was duly rung. During discussion after the peal it was thought that it was at least 40 years since a peal had been rung at Blctsoe. It was decided to check through the Association records and the following came to light: the previous peal at Bletsoe was rung on the same day (almost the same date) 38 years before, and John Hilson had actually rung in it!
