Commemorated at Vis-En-Artois Memorial, France, Panel 4. Born 1899. One of three children; two surviving at the 1911 census. Son of Alfred Rowley and Mary Ann Rowley (née Nott) of Tipton, Staffordshire. He was at school at the time of the 1911 census. His father was also a ringer at Tipton and is known to have rung peals at both Tipton and Dudley. A memorial peal of Stedman Triples was rung to his memory on 09/11/1918 at Tipton, conducted by William Fisher. His older brother, William Alfred Rowley, also served in the Great War (Service No.J20785), and in 1918, was aboard HMS Royal Sovereign; he survived the war and died in 1971. Born: Solihull. Enlisted: Wolverhampton. Resided (1911 Census): 62 Owen Street, Tipton, Staffordshire. The bells at St Martin’s, Tipton, were removed prior to demolition of the top part of the tower in 1951; the remainder of the building is now a private house.
