Mrs. Watts collapsed and died peacefully during Sunday service. She was not a ringer herself but always loved to hear the bells ringing, and her late husband was churchwarden when the bells were augmented to six in 1970 (his name is on the new treble). The quarters were rung in the evening, and by chance Chewton Mendip bells were also ringing - Chilcompton ringers were holding a practice there and some of them had also helped to ring for the funeral service that afternoon. It is rare indeed for all three towers in the benefice to be ringing at the same time. Members of Mrs. Watts' family, some of whom can ring, visited each tower in turn to hear the ringing.
