according to David Ahrens (who became tower captain after John Gilbert moved in 1980 to Stebbing) this peal was initially flagged up as a hoax by the ringing world and it was only after several phone calls that it was eventually accepted for publication. two months later the bells where augmented to six and the first on them followed in november 1990
