The original attempt having been cancelled due to illness, this peal marks the 51st anniversary of the rededication of the bells, on the 12th December, 1964, and also the 40th anniversary of Stephen Rabong’s first peal, at this tower, on the treble, on the 12th December 1975. Also rung in memory of Godfrey George (Smoker) Walpole, tower captain, who was instrumental in the restoration of the bells.
Also rung as a birthday compliment to David McLean (24th January) and for the fiftieth anniversary of his first peal (5,040 Plain Bob Minor, Trowell, Nottinghamshire, on the 26th January 1966).

After some months of recuperation in England in 1915 from wounds received he returned to the front on 9th October 1915 and lasted but one year until his presumed death on 8th October 1916. He is remembered on the Thiepval Memorial. We will remember them.
