Noel Tuff was born in Rochester, Kent on the 26th of November 1889. He went to school in Beckenham and then attended Malvern College and Brasenose College, Oxford, where he studied law. He met and married a Great Ryburgh woman called Muriel Smith and then in June 1915 he joined the East Kent Yeomanry and was sent to the Dardanelles. He was involved and seriously injured in an explosion at Helles and later died in hospital, in Malta, on November 5th, 1915.
