Alf Grimes rang many peals before the First World War and was leading peal ringer in 1912 and 1913. These handbells were believed to have been cast in 1908 and were used for peals at the George IV pub at Haggerston, of which Alf was the landlord. Upon Alf's early death from flu in 1917 the bells were 'lost' for many years until Neil Thomas acquired them from Alf's granddaughter who lives in Norwich.
