The first peal of London Surprise Major in Suffolk was rung on Monday, March 16th, 1903. This is the first peal by the association in the diocese. The Sproughton company have now scored the first peals of New and Old Cambridge Surprise Major, and the first silent peal of Treble Bob Major on handbells, and now the first peal of London Surprise Major. As there are only six bells at Sproughton church it is not always convenient to get to a peal of eight ; for that reason to make sure of the first peal, they were obliged to ring it on handbells.
