Rounds rung following the Election of Bishop Philip Mounstephen as Bishop of Winchester during the singing of the Te Deum by the choir, thus reviving a 700 year old tradition. On 28 September 1334, when news reached the monks at St Swithun’s Priory, that their bishop, Adam of Orlton, had been ‘restored to his temporalities’ by Edward III, they were instructed ‘to assemble in the church, ring the bells, and sing a solemn Te Deum to the accompaniment of organs…’. Ringers from three local towers in the Diocesan Guild took part.
