L/Cpt John Rice (22416) of the 8th Battalion, East Surrey Regiment was Killed in Action, aged 34, on February 1917, not far from the village of Theipval in the Peronne district of Somme.

His name is inscribed on Pier and Face 6 B and 6 C of the Theipval Memorial.
