Specially arranged and rung on New Years Day to congratulate our friend Joan Simpson, aged 85 (a ringer here at Coningsby), on being awarded a B.E.M. (British Empire Medal) in the 2018 New Year’s Honours List for services to the community of Coningsby (which includes her bell ringing & fundraising). Well Done Joan, Well Deserved!

Joan came and sat in the tower while we rang the quarter. She is hoping to ring in a quarter in a few weeks time to celebrate.

Ralph de Cromwell who built neighbouring Tattershall Castle was the founder and benefactor of this magnificent Collegiate Church which he endowed, for which the charter granting it Collegiate status was given by King Henry VI in 1439.

Rung in memory of Private William Stanley Lynn, Service Number 11891, 8th Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. He died of his injuries on 2 February 1918, following his return home to Edenham, and is buried in Edenham churchyard. He is the last of three Edenham ringers to lose their lives in WWI.

Specially arranged to celebrate the lives of Bernard B Tyrrell (1919-2008), Ronald C Noon (1925-2015) & Joy Noon (1931-2017), & their contribution, over many years, to this church & its bells. David & Jonathan Agg are Bernard's son-in-law & grandson respectively, whilst the rest of the band are Old Spaldonians (former pupils of Spalding Grammar & Spalding High Schools). The ringers of 1, 3, 5 & 7 were all taught to ring at Spalding by either Bernard or Ron. The first peal of Spalding Delight was rung on these bells in 1984, by an Old Spaldonian band, & also in our thoughts today are the two members of that band who are no longer with us, Roger Bailey & Susan E Agg (nee Tyrrell).

Rung to mark the centenary of the adoption of the Representation of the People Act 1918 which first gave (a few) women the right to vote. Noting that much still remains to be done to achieve gender equality.

Tuesday the 6th February 2018 marks 100 years since some British women were first guaranteed the right to vote. The Representation of the People Act was adopted in February 1918 eventually paving the way for universal women's sufferage in the country.

Specially arranged and rung to mark the 60th anniversary of the conductor’s grandfather Charles Thomas Rodgers ‘Tom’ (father of the second ringer) ringing his first quarter peal, which was Grandsire Doubles rung here on 23rd February 1958, on the fifth.

The 1958 quarter was the first quarter peal to be rung on the bells following their rehanging and dedication in February 1957, being rung on the first anniversary. It was the first quarter peal for all the ringers, who had all started to learn to ring at Brant Broughton together in May 1956 and was the first quarter peal rung on the bells by a completely local/resident band. This was followed up a year later on 21st February 1959 with the same band ringing the first peal on the bells by an all local band to mark the second anniversary of the rehanging and dedication of their bells.

Rung especially remembering Tom Rodgers (the conductor’s grandfather & father of the second) and Fred Derry (Tower Captain here for over 50 years, who taught the second ringer to ring here at Brant Broughton), along with Phil Pitchford, Jack Marshall & Ted Brown, of the original band all of whom have since passed away. The only surviving member of the band is Colin Jackson who still lives in the village.

Rung also to celebrate the birth of Aaliyah Anne Bishop, born 11th February 2018, granddaughter of the second ringer & niece of the conductor.

The ringers of 2 and 4 were Pauls Mother and Father, the ringer of the treble was Pauls sister.

This Quarter Peal was rung in the tower where Paul rang his first Peal on 12th June 1976 when he became the youngest ringer to ring a Peal for the Lincoln Diocesan Guild at the age of 9 years and 7 months. The ringers on 2,4, and 5 rang these same bells in that peal.

Laura Collin (Pauls wife) rang rounds with the band before and after this quarter peal.

Silk Willoughby was also the home tower of Pauls Grandfather Henry Collin.

Rung in memory of Paul D Collin who learnt to ring in this tower

Most methods -2. The unusual amount of changes was due to the band attempting to ring the maximum amount of changes in the 45 minute period!

Rung by the local band to celebrate the Royal Visit of H.R.H. Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales, to Tattershall today.

General Ringing of Rounds & Call Changes took place for an hour prior to him arriving at the Church involving all the local band (including the youngest & oldest members), being rung whilst Prince Charles arrived at neighbouring Tattershall Castle and throughout his half hour visit at the Castle. Also whilst he walked across from the Castle to the Church and then again when he left the Church for a further half an hour.

The Prince was visiting neighbouring Tattershall Castle in his position as President of the National Trust followed by visiting this Church, the Collegiate Church of the Holy Trinity, in his position as Patron of the Lincolnshire Churches Trust. During his visit to the Church all the ringers were presented to the Prince in turn and the Prince also accepted the invitation to have a go at ringing a bell by ringing some supervised backstrokes.

The Prince was visiting neighbouring Tattershall Castle in his position as President of the National Trust followed by visiting this Church, the Collegiate Church of the Holy Trinity, in his position as Patron of the Lincolnshire Churches Trust. Arranged and rung in memory on the centenary year of the death of Private A.C.Sharp Regiment number 40044 who served with the 8th Lincolnshire Regiment. Killed in action on the 9th March 1918. Son of Fred and Elizabeth Sharp of Hornsey Grounds, Benington. He is buried at Bedford House Cemetery in France. He was a ringer from the nearby Church of Benington.

Also Private Charles Richard Crawford Regiment Number G/23107 who served with the Queens Royal West Surrey Regiment, killed in action 30th July 1917. His body was never recovered, his name is inscribed on the Menim Gate memorial at Ypres, also a ringer from the church of Benington.

There are also a further 15 servicemen killed in action, died of their wounds, or their bodies never recovered, listed on the Roll of Honour plaque which is to be found in nearby Butterwick Church due to Benington Church sadly being redundant, had it been possible this quarter may have been rung there.

Also remembering on this centenary year, Private George Harwood killed in action 15 April 1918, Private Harry Harwood killed in action 26th August 1918, and Private Fred Needham died of his wounds 3rd June 1918, all from the Benington parish remembered here.

Specially arranged and rung with the bells half muffled to commemorate the centenary of the death of Private WILLIAM HENRY ROSSINGTON, who was killed in action on 15th April 1918 at the age of 21, whilst serving in the Lincolnshire Regiment 4th Battalion. William is commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial in Belgium.

William was a bell ringer at this Church, being a member of the local band until he enlisted. He was taught to ring on the then five bells here at Blankney (the present back five, the treble not being added until 1919 as a War Memorial) by the then Tower Captain Frederick Stokes, a well known and highly respected ringer within the Lincoln Diocesan Guild, being Hon. Guild Secretary for 30 years. Not surprisingly William joined the Lincoln Diocesan Guild of Church Bell Ringers and is commemorated on the Guild War Memorial in the Ringers Chapel at Lincoln Cathedral.

William was born in Blankney, son of Henry & Hannah Rossington and was baptised here in St Oswald’s Church Blankney on 13th September 1896. Before enlisting he was an Estate Carpenters Apprentice on the Blankney Hall Estate. He is commemorated on the village War Memorial which is on the north wall in the Church. His older brother Edward Thomas Rossington (not known to be a ringer) was also killed in the Great War just 10 months earlier on 13th June 1917.

Rung on the back five (original five) as there would have only been these five bells here when William was ringing here prior to the Great War, with the sixth bell not being added until after the War in 1919.

In memory of Percy Archibald Rawding who rang at this church. He was killed in action on 27 April 1918 while serving as a Fitter Corporal with Royal Garrison Artillery, 88th Siege Bty. He is remembered on the Canada Farm Cemetery in Belgium.

Rung in memory of Fitter Corporal Percy Rawding, who learnt to ring at Long Bennington and who died 100 year ago today. He is commemorated at Canada Farm cemetry, Belgium. Percy Rawding rang in a 720 of Plain Bob Minor on handbells at Long Bennington in 1914.

Prior to this QP, children and staff from Rawding House at Long Bennington Primary School, found out from Alan all about Fitter Corporal Rawding, in whose honour Rawding House is named.

Arranged to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first peal of the ringers of 5 and 6, at this tower on June 29, 1968.

Acrostic peal to mark the 80th anniversary of LNER locomotive 4468 Mallard setting the speed record for a steam locomotive of 126mph on 3rd July 1938. All method names also represent stations on former LNER routes and Greatford village lies adjacent to the East Coast Main Line a few miles south of Stoke Bank where the record was set
