The Coningsby & Friends New Year Quarter Peal Day Out in the Eastern Branch. Marking the 650th anniversary year of King Henry IV being born at Old Bolingbroke Castle. First quarter standing ontop of a cupboard: 5. Unfortunately the fifth rope broke in the pulley during the first 120 and due to time constraints we were unable to splice it back together so we pulled the rope up and tied it together between the garter hole a wheel spokes, however this meant the rope was seriously short and the only way it could be reached was for the conductor to stand on a box ontop of a large cupboard, about 3 ½ foot up, and even then he could only just reach the bottom of the sally. The Coningsby & Friends New Year Quarter Peal Day Out in the Eastern Branch. Remembering John R Ketteringham who was very proud to see these bells rehung and made ringable again in 2008. These bells cast in 1825 would no doubt have been heard by the young Alfred Tennyson (later to be Poet Laureate) when he was born & brought up at nearby Somersby Rectory between 1809 & 1837, and may have inspired him when he wrote ‘In Memoriam – Ring Out Wild Bells’ ‘Ring out, wild bells, to the wild sky, The flying cloud, the frosty light: The year is dying in the night; Ring out, wild bells, and let him die. Ring out the old, ring in the new, Ring, happy bells, across the snow: The year is going, let him go; Ring out the false, ring in the true.’ Most quarters (3) rung on a single day for: 6, Well Done Luke! Alistair loved sport - besides playing football Alistair was a Grimsby Town football supporter, attending as many matches as possible and for his 50th birthday he received a football shirt sent by the players from Grimsby Town. Be sides football snooker was another of Alistair's passions, watching snooker on Television as well as attending the snooker finals in London on three occasions.
