The Coningsby & Friends New Year Quarter Peal Day Out in the Eastern Branch.
Marking the 650th anniversary year of King Henry IV being born at Old Bolingbroke Castle.
First quarter standing ontop of a cupboard: 5.
Unfortunately the fifth rope broke in the pulley during the first 120 and due to time constraints we were unable to splice it back together so we pulled the rope up and tied it together between the garter hole a wheel spokes, however this meant the rope was seriously short and the only way it could be reached was for the conductor to stand on a box ontop of a large cupboard, about 3 ½ foot up, and even then he could only just reach the bottom of the sally.

The Coningsby & Friends New Year Quarter Peal Day Out in the Eastern Branch.
Remembering John R Ketteringham who was very proud to see these bells rehung and made ringable again in 2008.
These bells cast in 1825 would no doubt have been heard by the young Alfred Tennyson (later to be Poet Laureate) when he was born & brought up at nearby Somersby Rectory between 1809 & 1837, and may have inspired him when he wrote ‘In Memoriam – Ring Out Wild Bells’
‘Ring out, wild bells, to the wild sky, The flying cloud, the frosty light:
The year is dying in the night; Ring out, wild bells, and let him die.
Ring out the old, ring in the new, Ring, happy bells, across the snow:
The year is going, let him go; Ring out the false, ring in the true.’
Most quarters (3) rung on a single day for: 6, Well Done Luke!

Specially arranged and rung with the bells half muffled in affectionate memory of Joe Craggs, on the morning of his funeral, who sadly passed away on 18th December 2016 aged 84. Joe was a close family friend of the ringer of the third and the conductor. This quarter was being rung whilst Joe's family were gathering at the family home not far from the church within ear shot of the bells prior to the funeral. Joe loved hearing the bells and was born and lived in Branston all his life. A true kind hearted gentleman who would help anyone, nothing was too much trouble. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him! Rest in peace dear friend.

The father of 2 was Tower Captain here at Wragby immediately prior to Jim.
The band wish to associate Colin Ward & Tony Barker with this peal. Jim left instructions for the seven methods that he wished us to ring in the peal today (No Doubles!) along with the band he would have liked to have rung the peal, being the four ringers he taught (1,4,5,6) and Colin & Tony who both have strong connections to ringing at Wragby and to Jim. Unfortunately both Colin & Tony were unable to ring in the peal today.

Specially arranged and rung prior to the funeral of Alistair James Binks, friend of the treble ringer.
Alistair passed away peacefully at his home on 4th April 2017 aged 50, and is the eldest son of Stuart & Jennifer Binks. Stuart was Consultant Gyneacologist at Pilgrim Hospital Boston.
Alistair loved sport - besides playing football Alistair was a Grimsby Town football supporter, attending as many matches as possible and for his 50th birthday he received a football shirt sent by the players from Grimsby Town.
Be sides football snooker was another of Alistair's passions, watching snooker on Television as well as attending the snooker finals in London on three occasions.
Alistair was employed at Pilgrim Hospital from the early 1980's initially in horticulture and later ground maintenance but he loved nothing better then going home and helping to manage the 8 acres of ground owned by his parents.
Alistair always had time and a friendly welcome for staff and visitors - he will be sorely missed.

Rung to celebrate the 800th anniversary of the Battle of Lincoln Fair which took place in the City at Lincoln Castle on 20th May 1217 during the First Barons’ War, between the forces of the future Louis VIII of France and those of King Henry III of England. The battle (a major landmark in English history) was the turning point in the First Barons’ War and led to Prince Louis returning to France for good having signed the Treaty of Lambeth in September 1217!
Remembering the formidable lady constable Nicholaa de la Haye Castellan of Lincoln Castle. She directed the defence of Lincoln against the rebel Barons & Louis’ French forces in 1217 during the Battle of Lincoln Fair and made sure the Castle did not fall, holding out until Royalist William Marshal, 1st Earl of Pembroke arrived with reinforcements.
Rung during the City’s Battle of Lincoln Celebrations immediately prior to the Medieval Procession of shields & flags and the parade of Knights (re-enactors) up the High Street from the Stonebow (the City’s southern gateway) up Steep Hill (the route Louis forces took) to Castle Square (where the original battle took place) for the re-enactment of the Battle.
