Walter was the former Tower Captain here at St Mary-le-Wigford for many years, and it was down to his encouragement and determination that this tower had a thriving band, being the teaching tower for the City. Over the decades Walter taught many young ringers to ring on the four bells in this tower, with many of them ringing their first quarter peal here. His contribution to ringing in the Lincoln area was recognised when he was made an Honorary Life Member of the Lincoln Diocesan Guild back in 2002. Walter’s memory and legacy will live on with the bells at St Mary-le-Wigford which he so loved.
