Specially arranged and rung prior to Choral Evensong in affectionate memory of Chris Jones, boyfriend of Rachel Woodcock (the Conductors Sister), who was tragically killed in a car accident on Christmas Day aged 23. Rung on the eve of his funeral which is taking place here at this Church tomorrow.

Chris has been described as “a Gentle Giant who was always smiling” he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Rung half muffled to mark the anniversary of the death of Lord Frederick John Robinson, first Earl of Ripon, who died on 28th January 1859.

Lord Ripon lived at Nocton Hall and owned the Nocton Estate. All Saints Church was built as a memorial to Lord Ripon and the peal of six bells were given by his wife Lady Sarah Albinia Louisa, Countess of Ripon in 1865 in memory of him.

Rung in memory of those who died in the 1953 East Coast Storm, 60 years ago.

Specially arranged and rung to congratulate Tom Freeston on being given a Civic Award for “Service to the Community” by Boston Borough Council. This was awarded for his long and loyal service as Bell Ringing Captain at St Botolph’s (Boston Stump) and for services to bell ringing across the district. This will be awarded at a special ceremony on 18th April.

Tom has been Bell Ringing Captain at Boston Stump for 41 years, standing down at the end of last year, and has been ringing at the Stump for 66 years. He has also been President of the Eastern Branch of the Lincoln Diocesan Guild standing down last week at the AGM. Congratulation’s Tom, you deserve it! Especially for climbing the 209 steps up the Stump each week!

Rung also to congratulate Tom Palmer, local ringer on the birth of his third great grandchild in the early hours of this morning. The band wish to associate Tom Palmer with this quarter. Tom sat in the tower throughout the quarter peal.

Rung half-muffled following the funeral of Michael John Mills. Mike was a stalwart of St. Germain's Church, the Scothern Chorale and 'Fusion' whose concerts provided funds for the St. Barnabas' Hospice.

Rung in memory of Howard W. Egglestone, who taught Janet Clarke to ring and in memory of Gill Bland of Heckington, Lincs, who was a good friend of the conductor and who helped him progress with his Surprise Minor ringing. Both will be sadly missed by many.

Specially arranged and rung in affectionate memory of Gill Bland (of Heckington, Lincs) who sadly passed away on Monday 11th February 2013.

This quarter was rung immediately prior to the funeral and burial of Gill which took place just down the road at Longholt Wood which is situated on the outskirts of the village and is a natural burial ground.

Our thoughts are with Ian and the rest of the family at this difficult time.

Gill helped the conductor progress with his Surprise Minor ringing and was a good friend, she will be greatly missed.

Netherseale was specially chosen for the quarter as it was one of Gill’s favourite methods.

After the funeral some general ringing took place at Nocton, the other neighbouring village.

Rung on Edward King Day to mark the anniversary of the death of Bishop Edward King, 61st Bishop of Lincoln (1885-1910), who died on 8th March 1910. Edward King was a much loved Bishop and has been described as a Saintly Character, also being known as the “Bishop of the Poor”. He has close connections to this Church as it was whilst he was taking a service here on 4th December 1887 that he was reported to the Archbishop for “Ritualistic Practices” as he had too many lighted candles on the High Altar and faced east away from the congregation when up at the High Altar!

Rung to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Dambusters Raid, 16th/17th May 1943, on the Ruhr Valley Dams by 617 Squadron which was based at and flew from RAF Scampton.

Rung in memory of the 133 airmen who participated in the raid, but especially remembering the 53 aircrew who were killed during the raid.

Rung also remembering “Nigger”, Wing Commander Guy Gibson’s black labrador retriever who was the mascot of 617 Squadron. Nigger died on the morning of the Dambusters Raid, 16th May 1943, when he was hit by a car outside RAF Scampton. Nigger was buried at RAF Scampton at midnight at the request of Gibson whilst he was leading the raid.

Rung also for the feast of St Isidore (15th May), the patron saint of farmers, this being a farming estate/community.

Specially arranged to mark the 70th anniversary of Operation Chastise, the "Dambusters" attack on the Ruhr dams by 617 Squadron, Royal Air Force, on the night of 16th/17th May 1943. Hackthorn is the closest tower to RAF Scampton from where the attack was launched. This peal is dedicated to the memory of all those who perished, whether in the air or on the ground, as a consequence of the operation.

To the memory of those airmen of 617 Squadron, based at nearby RAF Scampton, who lost their lives in the early hours of today, May 17 - 70 years ago, when carrying out the 'Dambusters' raid.

126 changes was specially chosen as Mallard achieved the world speed record for a steam locomotive when it reached 126mph on 3rd July 1938 on the East Coast Main Line between Grantham and Peterborough at Stoke Bank (just south of Grantham).

Rung to mark the 75th anniversary of ‘LNER No. 4468, A4 class Pacific, MALLARD’ on achieving the world speed record for a steam locomotive, which it still holds to this day.

The record was achieved on 3rd July 1938 on the East Coast Main Line between Grantham and Peterborough at Stoke Bank when Mallard clocked a top speed of 125.88mph.
