Law James of Surfleet, First Master of the Lincoln Diocesan Guild of Church Bell Ringers, to mark the 75th Anniversary of his death on 3rd February 2007. In 1913 Law James augmented Surfleet bells to ten and wanted something special to mark the event. This he did by ringing a peal of Surfleet Treble Place Caters on 13th September 1913, being the first ever peal of Treble Place Caters to be rung. A Year later he conducted a peal in the same method at Ewerby on 3rd January 1914. Since then there has not been another peal of Surfleet Treble Place Caters rung. First blows in the method for all the band! Believed to be the first time the method has been successfully rung since 1914. Rung also in fond memory of our dear friend Mary Underwood of Stow, wife to John F. Underwood, who peacefully passed away at home on the evening of this Quarter Peal after a brave battle against cancer. Mary was known for her Kindness and Generosity. Underwood, on the morning of her funeral. Mary peacefully passed away at home on Sunday 4th February after a brave battle against cancer. Mary was known for her Kindness and Generosity. She never complained, never had a bad word to say against anyone and was always smiling. You could not have wished to have met a nicer lady! She was known far and wide for her hospitality and for the teas she put on for ringers after practices. You can not start to imagine the huge amount and variety of food she would prepare and put on for the ringers. She was especially known for her Trifles and Chocolate Cakes and would often be heard saying âgo help your self to some more food!â You never left the Underwood house hold Hungry!!! in fact you normally left with doggy bags and pack ups!!! She was a magnificent lady and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her! Our thoughts are especially with John Underwood, a regular member of this band and the rest of his family at this difficult time. There are many ringers within the branch who would like to be associated with this Quarter Peal, especially Margaret Parker, Sandra Rhodes & Sue Waterfall!
