It is 35 years ago this month since Fiona Dawson rung her first peal which was at this Church on 25th January 1972.

The bells were rung open for Evening Service, and to celebrate the life of Shirley Wyer, who for almost 60 years, was the organist at Kirkby Underwood, and other churches in the Ringstone in Aveland Group.

Rung on Practice Night by a local band to celebrate the Birthday of our good friend and local ringer Ron Applehwite who is 87 on Friday 26th January.

Ron is a local ringer at this Church and rings regularly on Sunday Mornings and Practice Nights as well as ringing regularly at other local towers. Ron had intended to ring in this Quarter Peal but due to a cold decided not to at the last minute! Happy Birthday Ron and we hope your feeling better soon!

Law James rung in a peal of Stedman Triples at Metheringham on 21st September 1912. This was the first peal to be rung on the bells and was Law's 100th Peal for the Lincoln Diocesan Guild.

In 1913 Law James augmented Surfleet bells to ten and wanted something special to mark the event. This he did by ringing a peal of Surfleet Treble Place Caters on 13th September 1913, being the first ever peal of Treble Place Caters to be rung. A Year later he conducted a peal in the same method at Ewerby on 3rd January 1914. Since then there has not been another peal of Surfleet Treble Place Caters rung.

Believed to be the first time the method has been successfully rung since 1914.

Rung also in fond memory of our dear friend Mary Underwood of Stow, wife to John F. Underwood, who peacefully passed away at home on the evening of this Quarter Peal after a brave battle against cancer.

Mary was known for her Kindness and Generosity. She never complained, never had a bad word to say against anyone and was always smiling. You could not have wished to have met a nicer lady and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her!

Our thoughts are especially with John Underwood, a regular member of this band and the rest of his family at this difficult time.

Rung whilst the Second Battalion of the Royal Anglian Regiment known as “The Poachers” exercised their right to parade/march through the City of Lincoln with Colours flying, bayonets fixed and bands playing.

220 soldiers from the Regiment took part in this Freedom Parade to mark the granting of the freedom of the City of Lincoln to the Royal Anglian Regiment.

The Regiment marched up the High Street past St. Mary le Wigford’s Church to the War Memorial where the official salute to The Right Worshipful the Mayor of Lincoln, Councillor Steve Allnutt, members of Lincoln’s Civic Party and the Colonel of the Regiment Lieutenant General John McColl CBE DSO took place before marching on to City Hall.
