The original peal which is commemorated on an ancient faded peal board in the ringing chamber of St. Giles was rung on 20th June 1756 at St. Peter at Arches Church Lincoln which was the Corporation Church. During the 1920's St. Peter at Arches Church was demolished and most of the materials and fittings from the Church were transferred/incorporated in to the new Church of St. Giles Lincoln including the fine peal of 8 bells cast in 1728 by Abraham Rudhall of Gloucester. The Composition used is thought to be the same compositions used in the original 1756 peal to the best of our knowledge. It was composed by John Garthon and was first rung on 26th August 1718 at St Peterâs Mancroft Norwich by the Society of Norwich Scholars. It is thought to be the first true peal of Grandsire Triples ever composed or performed. It is based on three lead courses and is a 12 part with the 6th bell observation. There are three different calls used, a traditional bob, a fifth's place bob and a fifth's place bob single. In total there are 276 calls. First Peal of Grandsire Triples for 6.
