Rung to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings. Gordon Newton, father of 3 and grandfather of 1, landed in Normandy in a Horsa glider with the 9th Parachute Battalion before the main force arrived. At the time of ringing this he was on his annual pilgrimage to Normandy.

Rung in memory of Private John Parr, Middlesex Regiment, who was killed in action on 21st August 1914 near Mons in Belgium, and is believed to be the first British Battle Casualty of the Great War. He was born in Church End, Finchley and is buried at the St Symphorien Military Cemetery.
