Rung to celebrate the reinstatement this day of the historic London & North Eastern Railway brand with the 7.54 am train from Newcastle to London, Kings Cross.
LNER was one of the 'big four' railway companies created by the Railways Act 1921 and abolished in 1948 at nationalization and the creation of British Railways. These companies presided over the heyday of steam traction and the production of the A1/A2 Peppercorn Pacifics, the Flying Scotsman, and the equally famous A4 Mallard. Today's train should have been steam hauled!!!!
