Rung as part of the biennial Mayfield Festival of Music and the Arts, and dedicated to the memory of Arthur Groombridge and William Baugh , two ringers at this Tower who gave their lives in 1918 during the Great War.

Rung in Sussex as a wedding compliment to the new Duke and Duchess

Rung in memory and on the centenary of the death of Pte. Frederick William Merritt. Frederick enlisted on 5th May 1917 declaring his age as 18 however, he was actually 17.

He was posted to the 9th Training Reserve Battalion at Rugeley, Staffordshire. He was transferred to the West Riding Regiment on 1st December and thence to the Durham Light Infantry Service No. 81957. Frederick was posted to France and reported missing on 27th May 1918 during the run-up to the Third Battle of the Aisne. This date was accepted as his date of death.

Rung, by a band of Past Masters of the Sussex County Association, to mark the centenary of the death of its first Master, George F Attree, who died on 1st June 1918. He conducted the first peal of Cambridge Surprise Major for the Association, using the same composition, on 22nd January 1891.

Rung during the Cathedral Flower Festival and to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the Coronation of HM The Queen.

Rung to mark the centenary of the death of George Frederick Attree, who died in British Columbia, Canada on 1st June 1918 age 65. It was George Attree’s initiative that the SCACR was proposed in 1884 and founded in 1885. He was its first Secretary and when the office was created in 1893, its first Master. He was also concerned in the formation of the CCCBR upon which he served. For many years he was Churchwarden at St. Peter, Brighton and with the St. Peter’s Society rang numerous peals there, as well as at other places in Sussex including Burgess Hill.

Rung to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the NHS by Aneurin Bevan. The band would like to dedicate this quarter to Maud Agnew, who was already a trained nurse when the NHS began. After a lifetime of caring for others she is currently being cared for in the NHS Royal Sussex County Hospital, next to the church.

Rung for Evensong and, on the eve of their joint funeral, as a thanksgiving for the lives of George and Edna Cole, loyal members of Westham church for many years, who both died recently.

Rung in memory and on the centenary of the death of Pte.Thomas James Higgins. Thomas joined the Royal Sussex Regiment on 16th May 1916. He later transferred to the Royal West Kent Regiment, and subsequently became a Private in the 13th Battalion, Royal Scots Regiment, Service No. 202296. Thomas died of his wounds on 2nd August 1918, aged 18. He is commemorated in the Senlis French National Cemetery, Oise.
