He was baptised at All Saints, Bisley and lived with his family in the village all his life before "joining up" in Stroud. The Hale family continue to live in Bisley to this day and his descendent, Josh Hale, is currently serving in the British Army. This performance was also rung to mark the centenary of the death of Private Oliver Smart 8th Battalion, Gloucestershire Regiment. He was also killed in action at The Somme on this day 1916 and he too is remembered at Thiepval. Oliver was born in Bisley but was working in Stroud prior to the Great War. John Cornock is related to Oliver Smart and would like to be associated with this performance.
