Rung to celebrate the life and works of Paddy Currin who was a ringer at Coaley until ill health forced her retirement. She died in February aged 84 and today would have been her 85th birthday. The methods rung were those Paddy rang in quarter peals in the tower. The quarter was rung with 84 calls, one for each year of her life. Paddy normally rang the 3 and in this quarter her son James rang this bell.

Acting SERGEANT BERT KNAPP of the Bedfordshire Regiment, Aged 22. He died on the first day of the battle, His body was never recovered so he is recorded on THIEPVAL MEMORIAL.
PRIVATE HERBERT GOODFIELD of the Somerset Light Infantry, died of wounds on 31st August 1916 Aged 28. He is buried at Bronfay Farm Cemetery Bray sur Somme.
CAPTAIN FRANCIS BURROUGH of the Kings Shropshire Light Infantry (Brother of the Rector of Winterbourne at the time) died at YPRES on 1st July 1916 aged 36

Private Percy John Bowyer served in "D" Coy. 1st Btn. Gloucestershire Regt. and died on Friday 25 August 1916 aged 33 yrs. He has no known grave but is commemorated on the THIEPVAL MEMORIAL, Somme, France. He was the brother of Herbert H Bowyer,of 25, Parkfield Row, Pucklechurch.
Private Herbert William Cox served in 2nd Btn. Yorkshire Regt. and died on Tuesday 3 April 1917 aged 30 yrs. He is buried in WARLINCOURT HALTE BRITISH CEMETERY, SAULTY. Pas de Calais, France.
Private Frederick George Drury served in 15th Btn. Royal Warwickshire Regt. and died on Sunday 24 September 1916 aged 19 yrs. He is buried in GUARDS' CEMETERY, LESBOEUFS, Somme, France.
Private Wallace Henry Payne served in 86th Bn. Machine Gun Corps(Inf) and died on Friday 30 November 1917 aged 20 yrs. He is buried in POINT-DE-JOUR MILITARY CEMETERY, ATHIES, Pas de Calais, France. He was the son of Samuel and Annie Payne of Leigh Farm, Pucklechurch.
Private Walter George Smart served in 10th Bn. Durham Light Infantry and died on Tuesday 29 August 1916 aged 27 yrs. He has no known grave but is commemorated on the THIEPVAL MEMORIAL, Somme, France. He was the son of Isaac and Elizabeth Smart.
Private Arthur Dennis Iles served in 10th Bn. Gloucestershire Regt. and died on Thursday 4 April 1918 aged 23 yrs. He is buried in VILLERS-BRETONNEUX MILITARY CEMETERY, Somme, France. He was the son of Emily Iles of Hodden House, Pucklechurch.

Rung to mark the centenary of the death of Private Sidney Hale of 8th Battalion, Gloucestershire Regiment. killed in action on this day 1916 during the Battle of The Somme and remembered at Thiepval. He was baptised at All Saints, Bisley and lived with his family in the village all his life before "joining up" in Stroud. The Hale family continue to live in Bisley to this day and his descendent, Josh Hale, is currently serving in the British Army.
This performance was also rung to mark the centenary of the death of Private Oliver Smart 8th Battalion, Gloucestershire Regiment. He was also killed in action at The Somme on this day 1916 and he too is remembered at Thiepval. Oliver was born in Bisley but was working in Stroud prior to the Great War. John Cornock is related to Oliver Smart and would like to be associated with this performance.

Rung to the memory of James Edward Knight 8th Gloucestershire Regiment killed in action in France 30th July 1916
