He enjoyed ringing at Swindon Village which was then a 5 bell tower and rang in the Quarter Peal there to celebrate the marriage of Queen Elizabeth to Prince Philip in 1947. He continued ringing for some time until his work involving unusual hours caused him to give up. Unfortunately he could not take it up again in later life as he suffered from ill health, but he always spoke fondly of the good times and friendship he had enjoyed as a ringer.
