This peal was rung to honour one, Mr W Sommerville to wit, who did so much to raise the Guild of St Nicholas to its present state of efficiency in the art of change-ringing, and although business claims caused his removal from Bristol he is ever in the minds of those who had the pleasure of meeting and ringing with him. When it was announced Mr Sommerville contemplated an early marriage, the first thing thought by the ringers was bells, and although there were no bells at the church where he was married, Canon Alford, of St Mary's church, of the same parish (Stoke Bishop), very kindly gave the permission to ring his bells, and the following paid a visit to Stoke Bishop on Wednesday, July 6th, to ring during the afternoon: W J Hinton, R J Wilkins, H Howell, J Thomas, J Burford and F G May, and rang Stedman Doubles, Bob Minor, Treble Bob Minor and Cambridge Surprise Minor. In the evening the peal of Stedman recorded was successfully brought round, and none more pleased than the conductor who had charge of the ringing arrangements. The band who rang the peal wishes to convey to Mr and Mrs Sommerville their hearty congratulations, the best of luck, and happiness.
