In 1825 The West Kirby National School opened in a room adjoining St Bridget's church tower. They probably only had a few pupils as West Kirby was a small rural community. You can still see the outline of the original school building at the base of our tower. In 1848 the new school was built close to the church and over the years the school has had four different locations. In 1885 the scholars transferred into a new brick-built school by St Bridget's church, which had two turrets and a bell tower. The old sandstone school building was an additional classroom, but is now The Charles Dawson Brown museum over the years the school has expanded into St Bridget’s C of E Controlled Primarily School, celebrating 200 years of educating local youngsters. As part of the celebrations we rang a 240 of Kent TB Minor on the back six bells, a 120 of Stedman on our “old five” and this quarter peal of Cambridge Minor on the front six.
