I. W. SMITH Mr. Isaac Wain Smith, for 50 years a ringer at Fairfield. Buxton. Derbyshire, and a life member of the Derby Diocesan Association, died at Warwick Hospital on March 25th. “Ike” (to his many friends) was born almost 80 years ago at Elton, and followed his father's footsteps both into the lead mines and to the five-bell tower there. Later he joined the railway and came to Fairfield in 1916 joining St. Peter’s band. In the early 30s the band took to “scientific” and Ike set a fine example by regularity and punctuality despite his duties as a guard. Shortly after completing 50 years at Fairfield, ill-health caused him to leave Buxton and live with relatives at Stratford-on-Avon. The funeral service was at Fairfield on March 28th. The bells were rung half-muffled preceding the service and three courses of his favourite Kent Minor afterwards. The Rev. R. D . St. John Smith and Mr. H. E. Taylor represented the Derby Diocesan Association.] JDA Ringing World page reference: 3028.0347Chester Diocesan Guild Bowdon, Cheshire St Mary the Virgin Saturday, 29 March 1969 in 3h 12 (18–0–6 in E) 5024 Double Norwich Court Bob Major Composed by C W Roberts 1 Nicholas Thomson 2 Nora M Randles 3 Christopher J Jones 4 Robert J Warrilow 5 George H Randles 6 Alan J Brown 7 John W Griffiths (C) 8 Michael Thomson Chester Diocesan Guild Prestbury, Cheshire West Pines, Dale Brow Tuesday, 1 April 1969 in 2h 37 (15 in C) 5040 Spliced Surprise Royal (4m) In four methods, comprising 3360 Rutland and 560 each of Cambridge, Lincolnshire and Yorkshire with 84 changes of method Composed by Alan F Scholfield 1–2 J David Atkinson 3–4 Robert B Smith (C) 5–6 Bernard F L Groves 7–8 C Kenneth Lewis 9–10 Gerald Moorhouse First peal of Surprise Royal in four methods: 1-2 First of Surprise Royal in four methods on handbells: 7-8 Ringing World May 2nd 1969 No. 3028 Vol. LXV page 354 Ringing World page reference: 3028.0354Chester Diocesan Guild Marple, Cheshire 6 Ashwood Crescent Thursday, 10 April 1969 in 2h 57 (15 in C) 5004 Kent Treble Bob Maximus Granta variation Composed by Robert B Smith 1–2 Robert B Smith 3–4 C Kenneth Lewis 5–6 Bernard F L Groves (C) 7–8 J David Atkinson 9–10 Gerald Moorhouse 11–12 Herbert Heaton Rung with birthday compliments to Mrs Lewis and Mrs Moorhouse Ringing World May 16th 1969 No. 3030 Vol. LXV page 391 Ringing World page reference: 3030.0391Chester Diocesan Guild Goostrey, Cheshire St Luke Saturday, 12 April 1969 in 2h 31 (6 in B♭) 5040 Minor (4m) Comprising two extents of Single Oxford, one of Kent, two of Cambridge and two of Plain Bob 1 F John Nelson 2 G Richard King 3 Brian Schofield 4 Eric Roughley 5 Geoffrey Gardner 6 Denis Mottershead (C) Ringing World May 30th 1969 No. 3032 Vol LXV page 427 Chester Diocesan Guild Prestbury, Cheshire St Peter Sunday, 13 April 1969 in 3h (14–2–8 in F) 5040 Stedman Triples Composed by F H Dexter (No 1) 1 Alan A Potts 2 Ian M Holland 3 Harold Lonyon 4 Herbert M Heaton 5 C Kenneth Lewis 6 Robert B Smith 7 Gerald Moorhouse (C) 8 Ernest Pimlott First peal of Stedman: 4.
