In remembrance of James Richardson, former ringer at St Leonard’s Middleton, one of the many casualties of the Normandy Campaign. James was killed in action on 8th July 1944, a very sad loss to the Local Ringing Band. This Peal marks the 70th Anniversary of his passing. Remembered with pride and with other World War casualties on a plaque in the Lady Chapel in this Church.

Rung to celebrate the life of Susan Freemont, sister of the tenor ringer, by a band who all knew her, had rung with her, and had enjoyed eating her cakes!
Due to her illness, Susan last rang a bell in 2010, when she rang in a quarter of Plain Bob Doubles with 7-6-8 cover at Sherfield English, Hants. The band on that occasion consisted entirely of nurses, and the quarter was rung to commemorate the centenary of the death of Florence Nightingale.
