Commemorated at Newport (St Woolos) Cemetery, Wales, Grave 39. "C" 168. The eldest of three children. Son of Frederick William Powles and Rosina Powles of Newport, Mon. At the time of the 1911 census, he was working as a carpenter, as did is father. It appears he had a heart condition that was made worse by his military service and he died in the 3rd Western General Hospital, Cardiff. Born: Westbury on Trym. Enlisted: Newport, Mon. Resided: Newport, Mon.

Rung open on the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Armistice which ended World War 1 and remembering the 207 men from Penarth who gave their lives, including Battery Serjeant Major Tom Bartlett, a bell ringer at this church. Tom was killed in action on August 30th 1916, aged 38, in the Battle of the Somme and is buried at Peronne Road Cemetery in Maricourt.
First blows and quarter peal in the method.
