First using extremes for all. Circled tower (6). Llandaff & Monmouth Diocesan Association Llandaff Cathedral, Cardiff Cathedral Church of SS Peter and Paul, Dyfrig, Teilo and Euddogwy Sunday, 4 April 2010 1280 Rutland Surprise Major 1 Bob Woodward 2 Gareth Kipling 3 Joy Kipling 4 Peter Brennan 5 David Jones 6 Tony Davies 7 David Llewellyn 8 Chris Kipling (C) Rung to mark the inauguration of the new Cathedral organ which first ‘spoke’ at the Easter Vigil service on Saturday evening 3rd April 2010. The old organ was restored after the 2nd world war and although a very serviceable instrument was always felt not to be adequate for the Cathedral. Fund raising towards a replacement was considered in the 1990’s but (fortunately for the ringers) the bells were a bigger priority and were restored first. An appeal was formally launched in 2008 which was given added impetus when a lightning strike damaged the old organ beyond repair. The new £1.5m instrument has 76 speaking stops spread over four manuals and pedals, 4,870 hand-made pipes up to 32 feet long. It is the largest wholly new organ to be built in a British Cathedral for 45 years. The ringers are proud to be associated with the fund raising for this great instrument donating £4000 through a sponsored peal.
