First peal of Major: 1. First peal of Major as conductor. The tenor ringer’s 50th peal. Rung with the bells half-muffled as a last tribute of respect to the memory of the Rev. Herbert Addams-Williams, M.A., for many years Rector of Llangibby, and Rural Dean of Usk, who died at Clifton on January 29th. Also to the memory of Mr. William Simmonds, for many years verger of this church, who prior to the restoration and augmentation of these bells was one of the old six-bell ringers. This peal was rung immediately following his funeral.

The peal was arranged to give Mr. Ernest Stitch the opportunity of conducting, for the first time, Holt's Original on these bells. Unfortunately, illness prevented him from taking part. Mr. Clift filled the breach as conductor, and Mr. Fred Chamberlain was good enough to take the spare rope.
