Saint Mary Abbots Guild — St Luke's Chelsea Sponsored Quarter-Peals

Saturday, 30th October 1993

On 30 October, the St Mary Abbots Guild, with help from some of our friends, launched its fund-raising effort for work to be done on the bells of St Luke’s Chelsea.

The bells are in a very poor state of repair, so that routine maintenance has had to be abandoned and many of us find them a real struggle to ring every Sunday.

Discussions over recent months have led to a decision that a faculty will be applied for, although the precise terms have yet to be finalised.

All of the 8 quarters attempted were scored to a respectable standard, and we are set to raise £800. Many thanks to the towers we visited for their hospitality, and to all of those who took part for their efforts and skill - both in ringing and in fund-raising. [AP - RW4321, 18 Feb 1994, p161]
