Peterborough Diocesan Guild — Daventry Branch Meeting

Saturday, 14 October 2017

This branch meeting will be at Litchborough (ground floor ring). It will consist of a five-bell striking competition with teams drawn on the day, followed by the short service at 4.30pm and tea and meeting in the village hall (Northampton Road). Please book tea with Christine Rodhouse on 01327 830350 or by Thursday prior AND please notify James Grennan on 01327 261596 or 07493 198046 or by the same Thursday of your intention to participate, together with your ‘lighter bell’ or ‘heavier bell’ preference, noting that Litchborough tenor only weighs 8cwt. Don’t be afraid of having a go! Please be available at 3pm at the village hall (modern building on south side of Northampton Road) for team selection (There is a large wedding in the church at 2pm, so it may not be cleared) and the draw for order of ringing so that the competition ringing can start at around 3.15pm. If you have a personal time restraint please tell James so that he can attempt to take this into consideration at the time of the draw for ringing order (see rule 4). The rules are detailed below.

1. Teams will be formed by selection on the day of the competition, as defined in Rule 11.

2. Less experienced ringers are encouraged to participate, subject to being able to ring without manual supervision in their own tower. Supervision will be available during the competition if required for safety purposes.

3. No ringer shall ring in more than one team, except as nominated by the Branch Ringing Master for the purpose of making a complete team.

4. The order of ringing shall be by draw held at 3pm on the day at the tower, except that the order may be altered at the discretion of the Branch Ringing Master to accommodate ringers with time constraints.

5. Each team shall have five minutes, before their test piece, to become accustomed to ringing the bells.

6. The test piece shall consist of 120 rows of rounds, call changes or method ringing struck as well as the team may manage.

7. The 120 changes after the first change will be judged. The intention to ring only rounds must be advised to the Branch Ringing Master before the test piece begins and the 120 judged rows will start after five whole pulls.

8. Each team shall signal that they are ready to start the test piece by ringing the tenor for two whole pulls.

9. The method of judging shall be determined by the judge(s), whose decision shall be final.

10. If the number of entries is higher than expected, changes to the competition start time and the time allowed to get accustomed to ringing the bells may be changed for all teams by the Branch Ringing Master.

11. This rule shall apply additional to, or if conflict exists in place of, the existing rules.

a) Teams will not be related to a tower or group of towers.

b) Team leaders will be nominated by the Branch Ringing Master to provide sufficient teams to accommodate all participating ringers.

c) Remaining participating ringers will record their preference for a ‘Lighter’ or ‘Heavier’ bell.

d) Team leaders will draw four team members from the ‘Lighter’ and ‘Heavier’ lists in the ratio of the Lighter/Heavier preferences recorded.

e) Team leaders will assume responsibility for deciding the method rung and the placing of the team. Conducting may be delegated.

Evening ringing will be 7pm – 8.30pm at Byfield (8 bells, tenor 12 cwt, spiral stair access)
