The ODG Newbury Branch Quarter Peal Week took place between the above dates during a week of gales and rain, but with an absence of snow and not as cold as in previous years. This popular and well established event serves to boost the profile of ringing in the Branch and give ringers opportunities to progress. In total there were 23 performances in 15 different towers and one in hand, in all stages from Singles (for the first time) to Royal, including spliced, and also for the first time, including 20 minutes of rounds and call changes for the novices. There were an impressive 70 ringers included in one or more performances, both from our own members and with guest appearances from neighbouring branches. The main aims of the week were achieved with a number of “firsts” as shown in the footnotes with many others gaining valuable experience with “strong” bands around them which are not otherwise available. The week ended with the Branch Dinner, where we reflected on the week’s activities and achievements over a fine meal and in good company.
