Cumbrian Codgers December outing

Thursday, 18th December 2025

December’s outing is a bit of a Christmas special - not too much ringing and an afternoon lunch! Here are the details.

11.00-12.00: St Mary Ambleside (8 bells, 32 1/2 cwt)

12.30-13.30: St Oswald, Grasmere (3 bells, 13 1/4 cwt)

14.00-15.30: Lunch at The Inn at Grasmere Red Lion Square

Come and enjoy a good ring on the splendid bells at Ambleside, followed by the three at Grasmere. I’m hoping quite a few of the team being taught at Grasmere will also be joining us for this Christmas special.

I still need to get confirmation for the lunch arrangements (menu and whether pre-order required) - I’ll send these details in a subsequent email asap.

In the meantime, please could you give me an indication if you intend to join in the fun, and if you would be interested in lunch so I have an idea of numbers.

We might try Stedman singles at Grasmere, the line is essentially the Stedman slow work (no cover bell obviously!) - the line is attached.

It would be great to see a good turnout for this month’s outing, not least because this will be my last (regular) Codgers outing. Some may know that Judy and I are moving to Alnwick and I can’t really run things from over there!

I hope that I can find someone who could take on the job of Chief Codger, which is essentially an organisational role plus arranging some (but certainly not all) outings. So please let me know if you might be prepared to take on this role, it’s not a massive call on time and there is an informal small group who help arrange individual outings. I will be happy to help make this work out over the short term, and it would be good to see the Codgers continue into the future - plus a new face at the helm would provide a fresh take on the Codgers outings.

Offers on the back of an (electronic) postcard please!

Best wishes to all and a happy Christmas if I don’t get to see you before then!

David
