Newbury Branch Ringing Week 2022

Starting out as Branch Quarter Peal Week, this annual event has evolved over the years into a much more open and inclusive one where anything worth noting is acknowledged. That means not only successful quarters, but ringing laid on to advance ringers and bands in any way at all, including quarters, peals and attempts where valuable experience was gained, even if not scored. Another side aim this year was to contribute to, and even accelerate the recovery of local ringing following the pandemic, an aim largely achieved with many of our towers taking part. Curiously and coincidentally, all listed quarters were solely or partly of Grandsire, from Doubles to Caters. This may also indicate that we are still recovering and getting back into the swing of things after such a long time away from the ropes, by starting with the simple stuff. Nonetheless, we still involved 43 ringers in 8 listed quarters and other ringing. In contrast, the first quarter peal week in 2009 included 69 different methods, variations and principles in 27 quarters, showing that we were all on top form that week.

Performances are listed below with individual footnotes explaining what was achieved. Additionally, the Beenham band, including their newest ringers, rang half an hour of call-changes for the morning service for the first time. By the 2023 Ringing Week they hope to progress to ringing a quarter peal.
