Before Palm Sunday Evensong, and rung as a tribute to L/Cpl Frederick Wilkinson, a ringer at Bearsted, Kent. Died 22/03/1918 age 19. Suffolk Regiment 11th Bn. Service No.41446. Commemorated at Arras Memorial, France, Bay 4. Born 3rd quarter 1898. He was the youngest of eight children, all surviving at the 1911 census, born to Charles Oscar Wilkinson and the late Ellen Wilkinson (died 1907). His brother, Lance Corporal Arthur Wilkinson, Royal Fusiliers, not known to be a bellringer, also fell, on 04/08/1916, and is buried at Pozieres British Cemetery, Ovillers-la-Boisselle, France. Born: Bearsted, Kent. Enlisted: Maidstone. Resided (1911 Census): Moat Hall Villas, Bearsted, Kent. On 24 March 2018 Canon John Corbyn, Vicar of Holy Cross Bearsted, presided over a short ceremony to mark the centenary of the death of L/Cpl Wilkinson. “We will remember them”.
