In memoriam.
Rung to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the train crash near St. John's station on 4th December 1957. Two trains crashed in dense fog just outside Lewisham - 90 people were killed and nearly 200 more were injured. The crash deflected one of the trains into an over-bridge, which then collapsed onto the packed carriages below that were carrying 2,000 evening rush hour commuters.
Maurice Coombs, whose father Thomas Coombs died in the crash, came to St John's church to listen to the quarter peal.
