One hundred years on, this Quarter Peal was rung to remember Serjeant George Batchelor who died on 18th August 1916 in action in France, aged 30. George is recorded as having been a ringer at St Stephens Canterbury, and a member of the Kent County Association. He is commemorated at the Thiepval Memorial in France. "They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them."
