Died 17/10/1918 age 31. The Loyal North Lancashire Regiment "C" Coy. 1st Bn. Service No.32349. Commemorated at Busigny Communal Cemetery Extension, France, Grave IV D 16. Born 4th quarter 1886 and baptised 26/12/1886 at Leyland. One of ten children; nine surviving at the 1911 census. Son of Richard Crook and Mary Crook (née Bowling) of 36 Union Street, Leyland. Before enlisting, he was employed at the Leyland & Birmingham Rubber Company Ltd in Leyland. He played for the local Leyland Cricket Club, keeping wicket for them. A memorial service was held in Leyland Parish church on 21/11/1918, for three men, including Corporal Crook. His brother, Thomas Crook, was also a ringer at Leyland. He died during fighting on the first day of the Battle of the Selle. Born: Leyland. Enlisted: Leyland, on 27/11/1916.
