In memory of Private Arthur James Eves, Rettendon, Essex. Died 02/11/1917 age 29. Essex Regiment 1st/5th Bn. Service No.250774. Commemorated at Gaza War Cemetery, Israel, Grave X F 14. Born 1888. Son of Mary Ann Eves of Woodham Ferrers, Chelmsford, Essex, and the late Thomas Eves (died 1894). He worked as a gardener before enlisting. His brother, Private Thomas Robin Eves, Seaforth Highlanders, not known to be a bellringer, also fell, on 09/04/1917, and is commemorated on the Arras Memorial. Born: Woodham Ferrers. Enlisted: Chelmsford. Resided (1911 Census): Woodham Road, Battlesbridge, Essex.
