Rung by the local band prior to the Annual Oddfellows Service. Inside Nocton Church hangs the banner of the ‘Loyal Ripon Lodge’ of the Oddfellows. The Loyal Ripon Lodge was set up for Nocton & Dunston in 1840 and gained its name to the local connection with the Earl of Ripon who lived at Nocton Hall.
Whilst this ringing was taking place the Oddfellows Processed from the Village Hall to the Church for the service.
A quarter peal on five (minus the treble ringer) was attempt prior to the service but came to grief early on and the band decided it was too hot and muggy to try again so general ringing took place instead.
Rung also marking the anniversary of the death of His Excellency, The Most Honourable, George Frederick Samuel Robinson, first Marquess of Ripon, KG. GCSI. CIE. VD. PC. Viceroy and Governor-General of India, who died on 9th July 1909. The Marquess of Ripon inherited Nocton Hall and the Nocton Estate.
(Rung also for the Lincoln Diocesan Guild)
